| Valley
of The Kings |
 |
On the west bank of the Nile where
the sun set lies the city of the dead " The valley of the
kings" which the pharaohs chose as their eternal resting-place.
It contains a large number of tombs whose discoveries astonished
the world at large & still does. The Valley of the Kings
in Upper Egypt contains many of the tombs of pharaohs from
the New Kingdom, including Ramesses the Great. Tuthmose
III, Horemheb's tomb, Ramesses VI's tomb and the most well
known tomb is the tomb of Tutankhamun which is famous as
it was the only tomb found intact as it evidently had remained
hidden until its discovery in 1922. This was in fact a very
minor Pharaoh who was murdered at the age of 18 - the treasures
in the other tombs must have been quite unimaginable. You
can see their tombs furnished & decorated with paintings
which symbolize the life history of the kings , his battles
& victory, you can see their gold coffins , food & a variety
of drinks which they will need in the after life as they
believed. On the walls , we can see the trip of judgment
by the God Osoris, where hi s heart would be weighed in
a balance against a feather & if it was not heavy with sins
, the pharaoh would enjoy a pleasant life on the land of
Osoris .

Tempel

Inspired
by a funerary temple of the Middle Kingdom , the architect
of Queen Hatshepsut Senenmout, built one of the most beautiful
monuments of ancient Egypt, the style of which was never
repeated, It is built as a series of terraces on a grand
scale, with stark colonnades blending in with the grooved
mountainside which rises behind the temple. Senenmut, who
was her architect, designed the temple of Queen Hatshepsut.
It was set at the head of a valley overshadowed by the Peak
of the Thebes, the "Lover of Silence". Reliefs on the south
side of the middle terrace show the queen’s expedition by
way of the Red Sea to Punt, the land of incense. Along the
front of the upper terrace, a line of large, gently smiling
Osiris statues of the queen looked out over the valley.
In the shade of the colonnade behind, brightly painted reliefs
decorated the walls. Throughout the temple, statues and
sphinxes of the queen proliferated. |
